Scary Clowns

I read a published story by FoxNews.com titled "Schools Closed in Ohio Town After Woman Says Clown Attacked Her, Threatened Students."  According to the article, a woman was attacked by a black juvenile wearing a clown outfit.  He also threatened students at Reading Junior and Senior High Schools by saying "that some students and teachers would wish they were never born at the Jr. and Sr. High School."  The Superintendent of the schools decided to call off classes for Friday just to be safe.  Since August people in several states have reported scary encounters with people dressed up in clown costumes.

Clowns are just plain scary.  I don't like them and they really freak me out.  Hearing that people are dressing up like clowns and scaring and threatening people is really sick.  I don't know what I would do if I was in my house and looked out the window and saw a clown staring at me in the dark.  I also don't know what I would do if I was walking down the street and a clown took off running after me.  I really hope this is just a big joke that will go away quickly and all of these reports and stories stop happening.

Colin Kaepernick

I read an article by Daniella Diaz of CNN titled "Obama Defends Kaepernick's Anthem Protest."  Over the last month, Colin Kaepernick has been taking a knee during the national anthem to protest black people's rights and to fight against police brutality.  Since he started doing this, other NFL players have joined him in doing this during the national anthem.  There are even some high school players who are following the NFL players in taking a knee.  President Obama was recently asked what he thought about this.  His response was "Well, as I've said before, I believe that us honoring our flag and our anthem is part of what binds us together as a nation. But I also always try to remind folks that part of what makes this country special is that we respect people's rights to have a different

I know that cops shooting black guys isn't right but the way they are protesting their feelings isn't right because the National Anthem is a time to honor those who are fighting for this country today.  It is also really bad that they are teaching small kids that they don't have to stand either.  I think they could speak out against this in some other way that wouldn't disrespect our country and the men and women in our armed forces.  I also don't feel it is right that President Obama is supporting this.  He is our President and he seems to be pulling people apart instead of helping bring people back together in our country.

Hurricane Matthew

I read an article by the Associated Press on CNBC called "Hurricane Matthew Has Rapidly Strengthened into a Powerful Category 4 Storm."  The hurricane is producing wind speeds of 140 miles per hour and keeps getting stronger.  A hurricane watch has now been issued for Jamaica.  The storm is located about 75 miles north of Punta Gallinas, Colombia and moving west-southwest at 9 miles per hour.  The U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami expects the storm to be in Jamaica by Sunday.

I have watched hurricane coverage on The Weather Channel and they look very disastrous.  They always bring lots of strong wind, heavy rains and strong storm surge from the ocean which makes really big waves.  I hope that Hurricane Matthew goes out to sea and loses its strength.  This would save lots of people's lives and not tear up cities and towns along the ocean.  The fastest man in the world is from Jamaica and I hope that Usain Bolt can make it out before the storm hits his country.

California Earthquakes

I read an article written by Jeff Daniels of CNBC called "Earthquake Swarm Rattles Area Near California-Mexico Border" about earthquakes that hit California this week.  According to his article, California has experienced a large number of small earthquakes under the Salton Sea.  This has scientists thinking that a large one is coming soon since this group of smaller earthquakes happened by the San Andreas fault line.  There have been more than 140 earthquakes that have happened since Monday under the Salton Sea.  This has seismologists thinking that these small ones are going to trigger a huge earthquake on the San Andreas fault.  The largest earthquake that has happened this week is a 4.3.  Experts say that the San Andreas fault is able to produce an 8.0 earthquake.

The San Andreas fault runs the entire length of California and a major earthquake from this fault line would cause a lot of damage.  Many people would lose their lives.  Buildings, roads and bridges would be destroyed.  Since the fault runs through the entire state, this means that thousands of people could be left homeless and cities could be destroyed.  Hopefully the San Andreas fault line doesn't cause a huge earthquake and destroy the whole state of California.
